I love to discover new designers and their work, don’t you?

Pei G Tsai F/W 2012.13

Last year, when I’ve studied at Central Saint Martins in London, I met Peggy and now she just launched her graduation collection under her label Pei G Tsai.

She could be a doctor, born in Taiwan, Peggy went to Canada to study thinking about going to medical school, but when she was eighteen, the designer decided to pursue her fashion dream and moved to London to study fashion, she studied at Istituto Marangoni. She told me she actually had made up her mind about being a fashion designer when she was in grade 4, but it was her mother that wanted her to become a doctor.

Japanese designers and all their pattern cutting techniques influence Peggy in her design work, Comme des Garçons is her major reference and goal to achieve. Commercial or conceptual? Peggy prefers conceptual ideas but with commercial value.

Let’s talk about Pei G Tsai Fall/Winter 2012.13 collection

Her focus on this collection was pattern cutting, Peggy was taking a short course at Central Saint Martins on different ways of approaching pattern cutting, so she started to experiment with pattern cuttings and that was how this fall collection began. Julian Roberts’ pattern cutting was one of her inspirations for this collection, Peggy also likes to get inspiration from exhibitions and artists to create her work.

With a very clean color palette for this collection, the designer focused on the pattern instead of having the colors to get more attention than the shapes, that was why this collection turned out with only two colors and three different fabrics.

Pei G Tsai - Fall Collection

When defining her collection for Pei G Tsai this fall, Peggy told me that it is “a collection that contains the innovation spirit”.

The woman who wears Pei G Tsai is 20-30 years old and she looks for extraordinary garments, she follows her own way of fashion and appreciates the artistic sense of style.

Thinking about the future of her label, Peggy would like to get into fashion media with a platform or conceptual store that not only involves fashion design but also photographers, stylists, and filmmakers. I’m loving the idea, I’m glad she didn’t decide to go to medical school.

You will find Pei G Tsai collection on Not Just a Label. And keep an eye on her, she’s already thinking about her Spring/Summer 2013 collection.
