Trends In Italian Beachwear

Italy has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and every year more than 60 million visitors flock to the country to spend time on the pristine sands and in the crystal blue oceans. Some of the most popular beaches, such as those in Calabria, Liguria and Tuscany, are not only places to relax and have fun: they are also a great place to see the new trends in beachwear. From the perfect vacation accessories to some stylish swimwear, there are lots of exciting fashions to take inspiration from.

Bold bikinis

Bikinis will never go out of fashion, but the styles for this year are big and bold. Classic high-legged bikinis are on trend in bright shades of emerald green, cyan blue and scarlet. The v-cut bottom is also extremely flattering, as it sits just above the hips, giving you the illusion of having longer legs. The front-tie top is another great bikini style that is flattering for all silhouettes. It gives good support for the bigger bust, and works well in plain colors, as well as retro, vintage prints.

Kaftans and kimonos

Beach cover ups are an essential, especially in the evening, or in the fall months when there is a cool breeze. The kaftan may have been a colorful 1970s trend, but fifty years later, and it is still very relevant as a cover up. In flowing chiffon or soft cotton, the kaftan makes a beautiful statement, and can also be transformed into evening wear, paired with a pair of capri pants. The kimono is also extremely fashionable, as worn by Jessica Alba in photos of her paddling on St Barts Beach. Go for warm, fall colors and natural prints to make a statement.

Chunky sandals

Kitten heels are simply not practical on the beach, but fortunately chunky sandals are on trend. Who would have thought that Prada would have designed a chunky, velcro sandal that is durable but still screams high fashion? But you will see these sandals being paraded around on the beaches of Italy. They are perfect for exploring the rockpools or taking a walk along the shoreline in the evening sun. Look for soft, platform soles that cushion and support your feet, and thick ankle straps that will be comfortable, but still stylish.

Italy is arguably the most fashionable country in the world. With so many beautiful beaches, it is no wonder that there are so many great beachwear trends to be inspired by.
